Bali Yoga Adventure 2011 - Back to the Source
with Yoga-Sam
Welcome
Friday 30th, September till Wednesday 12th October
Our Retreat in Bali has a special feel to it this year. A bit like a chai tea recipe. The first few times you develop the concept of how chai should taste, you experiment with amounts of tea, milk, water, sugar, and then the spices. Do we put more masala or ginger and what about star anise. The next time you add this and leave this out and fix it a bit as you left it a bit long and it almost burned. Then finally you have it right. Boil the water first with all the tea and spice and when you add the milk it will never burn. Really let the water boil like mad. Turn it all down and slowly add the milk and let it almost boil and stir and stir. Leave the cloves and peppercorns out it's just too much. Cinnamon sticks and powder, cardamon pods and powder, ginger and star anise. Then the yummy secret lots of dark brown sugar and you have real Chai Tea. Now finally you can sit back and really have fun drinking a few cuppas… We hope this year in Bali we can all enjoy our yoga and ourselves and have a few cuppas and some good fun.
Back to the Source
Today's world is so full of technology and other amazing distractions we can become quite caught up and separate from ourselves. Yoga today is no different than all other things it has lots of fancy bits and styles. All of them heaps of fun and well worth exploring.
A strong sense inside of me, in fact almost a tidal wave leads me to fulfil my own desire to find the source. With yoga going back to our classical routes of Hatha Yoga where Iyengar methods were born and vinyasa flowered. Therapeutic yoga developed from this source as a method when we found a place in our body not quite working thus therapeutic yoga became a way to bring the body back to the state of health it is meant to enjoy.
Finding ourselves the ultimate source. Without all the shiny gloss of the outer world around us and the opening that yoga brings we will explore a pathway to who we are as human beings. Finding new friends, sharing meals, meditating, laughing, singing and silence can all be keys. We will use pranayama and other breath work as fuel to our true source and then rejoice by simply being ourselves.
New Friends Form a Community of Yoga
One thing that is so much fun is that each group is full of people who the most they know about each other is the color of the yoga mat they see them on at yoga class. Included in our yoga pot of chai are people from around the world that no one has met before. A group of mostly unconnected people. Unconnected until they do yoga, meditate, chant, laugh, eat good food, ride on planes together, swim, surf, hike & explore, get sweaty in yoga poses together, get up early, sit in hot springs, dance, and do even more yoga all together in one big family. We call it "The Bali Yoga Family Effect". Each year we have seen deep friendships and even relationships develop all around the healthy concept of Yoga. Here we offer you a chance to truly live your Yoga not only physically but on an emotional spiritual level. Dropping the barriers that separate us and allowing a community to form. If a few more people can practice this kind of Transformation then we just could be on our way to a door that will lead us to World Peace. Could it be by accepting ourselves and each other we just may experience Transformation. We shall see!
Certainly if doing heaps of yoga with a senior yoga instructor and really getting down to the true details and depths of all the poses interests you. Exploring mindful yoga and releasing stress and going deeper with a teacher specializing in "Mindful Yoga". Sitting in silent meditation and dancing during active meditation. Going into deep states of relaxation using your breath as a key to a new place. Singing and dancing and having fun. Sharing and telling your stories to all around… Becoming friends with so many. Sharing the beauty of Bali with its sunsets, black beaches, mountain views and Hindu spirituality with all our favourite gods of Ganesh and Shiva. Or the Animism of the far north where we find spirits and divas and gods in all around us.
The main and most important thing included is the opportunity to do yoga and meditate every single day and to experience how it feels to live the yoga life with the guidance of two very happy and supportive senior yoga teachers, Sam and Sydel Weinstein and to Breathe and Gain Wisdom with Lena Kristina one of the greatest Wisdom and Life Motivators on the Planet, her skill with Breath Transformation is the art of transformation.
Lena Kristina from Sweden will be available for private motivational and breath-work sessions at $100 per session.

Taking Some Well Planned Time off Work
We have planned the retreat during the holidays so more people can attend. We take advantage of the Monday holiday by leaving early on Friday Morning when most people leave for their long weekend.
As well we get the best timing out of the weekends and it works out your 12 day holiday only has 6 business working days and you come home on the 7th working day early. Making it easier to take the time off. Also inform your work this retreat helps participants to not only deal with their own stress but also helps you to learn how to help and deal with others stress levels around you with yoga ,meditation and that in Future you will have these tools available so that you can better contribute to your workplace. If you need a professional letter Sydel can arrange it. Regardless life is to short not to be able to have a bit of fun and time off.
I want to come!
If this sounds good then we WELCOME you to Bali 2011.
Contact Us with any questions you may have, enrollment forms and payment details.
You can email yogasam@homeofyoga.com and send me the message "SIGN ME UP FOR BALI YOGA ADVENTURES 2011", or by phone on, 0414 636 459.
We have bank transfer facilities, phone credit card facilities, and efpos to meet your needs safely.
Sydel and I look forward to getting to know you and doing yoga with you.
Who Should Come!
No experience, beginners, advanced and student teachers and even just friends.
Every year each participant chooses a pose or sequence or body concept that they would like to improve or understand more fully, to help them to the next level with their Yoga. This can also be a spiritual or emotional concept or blockage or something from "The Sutra's" Throughout the retreat we will work with you to achieve that goal. In the past many participants have had great moments of awareness in new poses.
As well we have worked hard to get a booking that fits perfect with school holidays and incorporates the long weekend so we can stay a couple of extra days and at the same time have less working days missed due to a great booking strategy to help keep you and your workplace both happy.
This retreat is suitable for absolute beginners, advanced and student teachers alike. Those needing private lessons that are very new to yoga we will arrange a few sessions with a teacher to support you. Student teachers can if they wish do the retreat as a student teacher and follow a program from Sam that will give them hours towards certification. Just let Sam know as the program needs to be worked out prior to leaving for Bali.
Spaces are limited, bookings must be made now to ensure your place!
LOVE LETTERS AND TESTIMONIALS ABOUT Our Adventure in Bali
I had a wonderful and deep time. Given me lots to reflect on and more tools in the tool box of life. Thank you for being so generous and let me participate in all the fun. You did a really good job of helping people transform some really stuck stuff and it was a fascinating and tense journey. When I reflect just can't believe the amount of ceremonies and honour of life and spirit that we were privilege to participate in.- Helen
It was extraordinary Most good things probably occur as happenstance. I ended up in Sam’s yoga camp totally by accident. Swedish psychologist, Lena-Kristina Tuulse, whom I had met accidentally three years ago, happened to invite me to come along. I had no expectations, I just went because I trust what Lena tells me. I also wanted to step aside for awhile and to gather new strength.
Sam’s yoga camp was totally extraordinary for me, and will certainly change my life, which is in the throws of change anyway, even more. I understood how extraordinary it was only when I had arrived back in Estonia. While I was in Bali I just understood that I had ended up in a marvelous place among marvelous people.
Why extraordinary? Because when I compare my feelings before and after Bali, I must say that I have never before experienced a greater change in my physical and spiritual being. Something happened to me there. How this happened I don’t know. I just was and participated in everything.
Sam and Sydel and our totally fantastic Australian-Swedish-Estonian-French group were very inspirational. In addition, I liked Indonesia itself and all the people and things I encountered there, starting with the carefree locals and ending with the Hindu lifestyle; I liked Bali nature (picturesque rice fields), architecture (it was if I had ended up in an old fairy story…), music (gongs!) and dances (the men’s long nails and frenzied looks), which seem to come from another planet.
The greatest discovery for me was yoga itself. Previously, I had always thought that yoga was too slow for me. I also thought that it was too mainstream (I am modern, I attend yoga…). I like to move against the current. In addition I don’t like to belong to groups (this is somewhat strange, because in my professional life I am a group leader) and don’t like to be defined very specifically (including as a yoga student).
However, after the camp I have an “urgent” need for yoga and am visiting various teachers in an effort to find the yoga that suits me. I am also reading. Of course, I will not find another Sam in Estonia.
It was a surprise for me that all the days started so early – already at 5 or 6 am – and were so intensive and fully packed. As always, I was able to read only about 1 to 2 pages of the seven books I had brought along. At the same time, I never got to sleep before midnight. There was no time…
I know that water can intensify the senses, but during the water meditations I experienced something I had not experienced before. It is not possible to communicate this in words. It was if I were suddenly a spirit somewhere in an existence between lives, with only great emptiness and a sun that was bright but cold. I will always remember this.
It is also difficult to forget the unique energy of the group members with whom I came in contact during the paired or group meditations.
I could write an entire page about each hour I spent in the yoga camp.
Of the experiences during the free time, I received a powerful emotion from the cremation lasting several hours that I witnesses at the Monkey Forest Temple in Ubud – the masses of people, gongs, drums, giant ritual bulls, the small bodies wrapped in white cloth, etc. All this still haunted me later when I was back home. I would like to go to the other world in the same way. This was all truly grand and unworldly. In comparison, Estonian funerals are very sad and depressing. There was nothing morose about it in Bali. It also turned out that Kuta was a great place in the Universe to party. I was truly moved that Bowen and Michelle did not leave me in a reggae bar to dance in the early morning when it turned out that I am truly a party animal and have difficult getting out the groove :-)). I vividly remember a disco somewhere in an ascetic lodging establishment at the “end of the earth”. Only cold water came from the tap and there was no faucet, but it was there that I think our group became very close and our spirits danced merrily together.
The organisers were unbelievably positive, vital and persuasive. I thank you Sam, Sydel and Lena-Kristina + all my group members. I hope that I will meet you again, and the journey (into oneself) continues. - Liina
The experience of doing yoga on the beach at Balian, this tiny isolated little village on the north west of Bali was incredible. We woke in the early morning whilst it was dark, meandered down to the volcanic sandy beach, and did sun salutations whilst the sun rose over the palm trips. To salute the sun in such an authentic way was amazing, as well as having the sound of the waves unceasingly crash next to us – magical!
Balian was my favourite destination – it felt like Bali 30 years ago. Completely isolated little village with a couple of bungalows, some wild waves and very warm and friendly locals. Waking up to a view of the beach with palm trees sweetly swaying in the breeze was magical. Dancing to salsa, the beach boys and other American rock was a blast! Everyone was having such a ball and let go! We all felt so comfortable with each other…. - Vickey

We will do yoga, eat, sleep, and be merry all around Bali!

KLM and Garuda fly from Amsterdam and offer direct routes and cheap flights. Its our dharma meditation to take care of you as much as possible thus helping the feeling of another Bali Family come together as a group of yogi's meditating together towards world peace. SAM I AM
Sam Weinstein has been teaching yoga for the last 37++ years. His first class in the 60’s he attended with a bunch of crazy hippies on a road trip to Wyoming where they did Kundilini yoga in fields along the way. No stranger to yoga as his mom did yoga with him as a child: this experience with a group of very amazing people was his first real feel for yoga. Sam was 11 years old. His original Teacher and Yoga Master is Ed Keays(Pujari) from California who started Sam on his path with yoga, meditation, therapy, spirituality, gurus, consciousness, and adventure. Sam also studied yoga for 5 years in India, mostly with BKS Iyengar who has shaped Sam’s way of teaching yoga, which always involves detail and alignment. Sam started teaching yoga after completing Ed Keays year long teachers training and several years of mentorship combined with long stints with B.K.S. Iyengar in the 70’s; where Ed and his crew were encouraged to teach in the Iyengar style. In addition to this Sam has done Yoga teacher trainings from the Bahamas, Canada, California, Mysore, Poona, Rishikesh, Chennai . Master Yoga Teachers where he has studied include Iyengar but Jerry Woods ,Roger Cole, Shandor Remote,Tim Miller, Patobi Joyce. Sam has had schools in San Diego Calif. , La Jolla Calif. , Portland Oregon , and now Perth Western Australia. He is proud of all the teachers he has trained over the years . His teachers have successful schools and classes all over Perth and the South West of W.A. ,Sydney ,Brisbane, Innsbruck Austria, Mexico. The original school still run by Sam and Sydel is theTransformational Yoga Institute The Home of Yoga Mosman Park at 610 Stirling Hwy.
Sam has a Education and Sports Degree , a degree in Family Counseling and an Indian Degree in Meditation and Spirituality. He has done work at Esalon in Big Sur Ca. And The Living Love Centre in San Francisco as well as the Transactional Analysis institute in La Jolla. Sam is a trained Rebirther, Guidance Counsellor, Life Coach and has trained in various Body Works from Deep Tissue Realignment Therapy, Level one accreditation in many different types of massage, Water massage and Breathing Therapy. His upbringing was with Russian Jewish Holocaust survivors they were more Gypsy-like than Russian and his mother was a well-known Psychic.. Sam is very much a family man and his parents raised him using a method now called “Attachment Parenting”. Sam and his wife Sydel have raised there own children using this style and host a charity “THE FAMILY NURTURING CENTRE” that supports pregnancy and new families with non-violent options to parent children and give babies the most peaceful option of coming into the world. Sam is childbirth and parenting educator and Sydel is a lactation Counsellor. They are both trained Pregnancy yoga instructors.Sydel a medical sociologist and mental health first aid instructor. Both are senior yoga teachers . She specialises in mindful yoga and yoga for stress relief. One of Sydel's great interest over the last 30 years is the art of healing and forming communities that support each other on a spiritual and emotional level..In his Teens Sam was an avid sportsman. He showed Horses in State competitions from his Parents horse ranch and did his bit with Rodeo Riding and even did a stint as a cowboy herding cattle. As well he did several years as a Springboard Diving before he switched to competitive Swimming. He coached all these sports at different times. In 1985 Sam suffered a serious accident that changed his life. Unlike Buddha who a leaf falling brought enlightenment Sam had to have a 5x12 railway Plank fall 15 feet onto his head and leg to have his life changed.. Sam got many things from the experience on the good side an amazing near-death experience and the worst they wanted to amputate his foot. Refusing hospital care and using yoga and healing from his wife Sydel he kept the foot ,although it took several years to walk unaided and even now is working with this injury and the jolt it gave his metabolism .It has also brought him great empathy as to why the path to healing can be so long and complex. His thyroid and left temporal lobe ankle and food and shoulder have serious injuries. Sam takes no pain relief as much as possible using yoga , and meditation to deal with any challenges. Recently he is working on reducing body mass that was the result of not walking for several years.Sam gas chosen yoga and meditation not medication to heal his body.
Sam grew up in a very adventure filled world and has many great stories and has continued his adventure by going around the world well over 8 times. He invites you join him with the practice of yoga by attending some great yoga classes. He also offers workshops and Yoga Tours. Sam has total faith in all his students and there goodness and beauty. It is this faith he encourages each student to discover in themselves. Be ready to get stretched in the body but also the mind. Heal the soul and discover the fun loving person inside yourself, that can dance with God.
