Sydel weinstein

Sydel Weinstein Sydel has been teaching yoga for over twenty-one years. She fell in love with yoga when she was 21 reading Light on Yoga by BKS Iyengar and practicing at the Adelaide school of Yoga. In 1975, Sydel completed a degree in Sociology at Flinders University in South Australia before extending her studies and work to include healing, massage, natural medicine, meditation and spirituality. Around this time she began to form her ideas about healthy caring communities. Sydel deepened her experiences in meditation when traveling and living in India and America where she met her husband Sam Weinstein.

Becoming a mother was a transformative experience for Sydel, bringing together and extending her studies into breastfeeding counseling, baby-wearing and parenting education. Sydel has also developed a strong research interest in the sociology of parenting. She has raised one step-son and birthed one son at home and practiced attachment parenting.

Sydels experiences as a mother, carer, and with the charity organization, the Family Nurturing Centre have led her to develop her Mental Health and Well-Being Program. Sydel was one of the first mental health first aid instructors in Perth and is now a master trainer. In 2009 Sydel completed a professional retreat in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) with Jon Kabat-Zinn and in 2010 will be studying restorative yoga and its applications with Judith Lasater the author of numerous books including “Yoga Body”.

Sydel is now offering several mindful yoga classes a week, including a cancer wellness class. She runs regular mindfulness workshops including 'De-Stress with Yoga’ and she also teaches children’s yoga, pregnancy yoga, parent and baby yoga.

Sydel is known for her empathy and loving nature. She shares her extensive knowledge and research through the Home of Yoga and Family Nurturing Centre and invites you to share in her journey.
