Yoga Near meEssentials For Beginners

This Class is only for Students enrolled in our special 6 week Beginners Course where students are taught the foundation Transformational Alignment Based Yoga . The syllabus, with an emphasis on simple techniques to engage in  postural alignment and finding your own personal alignment in poses. By finding and understanding alignment you will come to a deeper space in the poses and be less likely to stress the body in poses before it is ready. The other is to learn the concept of only going to your edge in all the postures and how to use yoga props to support you in poses. These classes are appropriate for Beginners, or those who are new to yoga, or interested in learning the benefits of Yoga practice. All Yoga classes finish with instruction of skills on learning how to relax. Once again they are specific to students enrolled in our Beginners course. You will have access to over 12 classes each week. Important to the course are the Saturday 10:00am Essential Foundations Class where Sam each week  reviews the poses you have learned so far and Introduces new postures with all their details and what Yoga props to use. Also important is the 6:00pm on Wed essential foundation class . In this class Sam has Assistant Teachers who are enrolled in his training for Teachers course join him in setting you up in the poses and assisting you in which yoga props you should use and giving you a meaningful experience of a yoga class.

Mindful YogaYoga in Perth

In a sense all yoga is mindful. Yoga’s inherent nature is awareness of the body and breath. At the Home of Yoga we teach all our classes with this understanding. In the Mindful Yoga classes we simply give more time and attention to the process. Sydel uses the Jon Kabat-Zinn Body Scan to help in this process of becoming a witness in your yoga practice. Sydel has been practicing and studying meditation for over 40 years in India and Internationally. In her degree in sociology she focused on meditation methods to help support people. She has done the MBSR course with Jon Kabat-Zinn which is the core course of the mindful work.Sydel also has worked utilizing mindful yoga , movement and touch with refugees suffering from trauma . She pulls from many methods to make this an enriching class. Great for Stress and Peacefulness .“Mindful yoga is a lifetime engagement – not to get somewhere else, but to be where and as we actually are in this very moment, with this very breath, whether the experience is pleasant unpleasant, or neutral. Our body will change a lot as we practice, and so will our minds and our hearts and our views. Hopefully, whether a beginner or an old-timer, we are always reminding ourselves in our practice of the value of keeping this beginner’s mind.” – ‘Mindful Yoga’ by Jon Kabat-Zinn

Relax Therapeutic Restorative YogaRestorative Yoga Perth

In this very special class we will do poses that work on old injuries, strengthening weak areas, and postural alignment of the body. Healthy backs, knees, shoulders, necks, ankles, reproductive organs and of course calm minds.

This is a passive yoga class using yoga props and holding positions for longer amounts of time. We will introduce meditation into your yoga and many new poses that facilitate rejuvenation of the entire being. Bolsters, blankets, walls, swiss balls, breath, massage and heaps of loving support will be used as a way for you to find the path to good health, relaxation, and a happy stress free life.

This is a great class for tight areas and a better understanding of your yoga. Another good name would be wellness yoga. Sam (and Sydel from Sam ) is lucky enough to have learned the use of all these props from both B.K.S. Iyengar and Sw.Satya Pujari over many years and classes. Sydel has also done several specific Therapeutic Restorative Yoga courses with Judith Hanson Lasater .

“Follow your nature. The practice is really about uncovering your own pose; we have great respect for our teachers, but unless we can uncover our own pose in the moment, it’s not practice — it’s mimicry. Rest deeply in Savasana every day. Always enter that pratyahara (withdrawn state) every day. And just enjoy yourself. For many years I mistook discipline as ambition. Now I believe it to be more about consistency. Do get on the mat. Practice and life are not that different.” — Judith Hanson Lasater
